Apple releases first betas for tvOS 18.4, HomePod 18.4, more

Several weeks after the last big OS updates shipped to the public, new beta software is finally available for Apple’s devices. Beta 1 updates include tvOS 18.4, HomePod 18.4, and more.

New software cycle should bring more feature additions than the last wave

Apple has officially kicked off a new beta cycle for its various software platforms.

The company launched public versions of its previous update wave last month, including tvOS 18.3, HomePod 18.3, and more. Those releases focused on performance, bug fixes, and security enhancements. New features were hard to find.

But now, a fresh beta cycle is here, bringing the possibility for more feature-rich updates.

Overall, Apple has released a full lineup of new beta 1 updates including:

  • iOS 18.4
  • iPadOS 18.4
  • macOS Sequoia 15.4
  • visionOS 2.4
  • tvOS 18.4
  • HomePod 18.4
  • and watchOS 11.4

The first several of these releases, at least, are expected to pack a variety of nice feature upgrades.

Apple Mail’s redesign is expected to come to the iPad and Mac, new AI languages are supported, and Siri may be getting upgraded—though a delay into 18.5 on Siri changes looks likely.

Beta updates like tvOS 18.4 and HomePod 18.4 are currently big unknowns for feature updates.

However, after such minor updates in the last beta cycle, we should hopefully see at least some new feature upgrades this time around.

We’ll be diving into the beta 1 updates and will report back on any and all discoveries.
