Brad Pitt races F1 in Apple TV+ summer blockbuster, here’s the trailer

Apple TV+ has recently gotten in the habit of sending movies straight to streaming, but this summer, Apple has a big-budget blockbuster coming to theaters: F1. Now the official trailer has just debuted.

F1 trailer reveals plot of Apple’s summer tentpole

Despite the recent success of Apple TV+ film debuts like The Gorge and Wolfs, there are certain movies that Apple is still willing to make big theatrical bets on.

F1 is that film for Apple this year.

Starring Brad Pitt and from the director of Top Gun: Maverick, Joseph Kosinski, F1 has all the makings of a summer blockbuster—or at least, that’s what Apple’s hoping.

We’ve seen a teaser trailer before, and a Super Bowl commercial, but now with F1’s June 27 release just months away, Apple has just shared the first full-length trailer.

You can watch the trailer below:

Apple has also shared the following summary of the film:

Dubbed “the greatest that never was,” Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt) was Formula 1®’s most promising phenom of the 1990s until an accident on the track nearly ended his career. Thirty years later, he’s a nomadic racer-for-hire when he’s approached by his former teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), owner of a struggling F1® team that is on the verge of collapse. Ruben convinces Sonny to come back to Formula 1® for one last shot at saving the team and being the best in the world. He’ll drive alongside Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), the team’s hotshot rookie intent on setting his own pace. But as the engines roar, Sonny’s past catches up with him and he finds that in F1®, your teammate is your fiercest competition—and the road to redemption is not something you can travel alone.

After F1’s theatrical run, Apple is expected to debut the movie on Apple TV+ later this year.

It’s previously been rumored that Apple was in the bidding for streaming rights to Formula 1, but so far nothing has come of that. Perhaps we’ll hear something more as the F1 marketing blitz kicks off.
