Leaker suggests iPhone 18 Fold may cost up to $2300, slightly higher than competitors

According to leaker Instant Digital on Weibo, Apple’s first foldable iPhone will cost between $2100 and $2300, placing it slightly higher than Samsung’s current Galaxy Z Fold 6.

According to multiple sources, Apple will be launching its first foldable iPhone next year, alongside the iPhone 18 lineup. It’ll reportedly offer a 5.5-inch outer display, as well as a larger 7.8-inch inner display with a nearly 4:3 aspect ratio. Apple also wants to address the crease issue seen on other foldable devices.

Some analysts even predict that the foldable iPhone in 2026 will help Apple recover from declining sales.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously shared that this foldable iPhone would start over $2000. Today’s new detail from Instant Digital gives us a more precise idea:

Based on the iPhone’s profit margin, the iPhone foldable screen is estimated to start at between US$2,100 and US$2,300, not much more expensive than Samsung’s.

This is a fair bit higher than Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 offering, which starts at $1899.99 currently. Google’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold starts slightly lower, at $1799.

With an up to $2300 starting price, Apple’s offering will certainly be at the top of the market, but that shouldn’t be too surprising. Given Apple’s many ambitions with this device, this price will likely be justified. Not to mention the fact that production will likely start off a little slower.

It's worth noting that Samsung is almost always running some kind of promotion, so very few buyers actually pay full MSRP. Right now they're offering up to $1000 off with a trade in, or $400 off as "Samsung Instant Savings" with no trade in, so it effectively starts at $1,499 right now.

Given the fact that iOS handles tablet-sized displays far better than Android does, many users have been looking forward to an Apple foldable for years. While you will have to pay a pretty penny for it, all signs are pointing to a launch finally occurring next year.
