New iPhone 17 Pro render shows what unibody rear design might look like

Apple’s unveiling of the iPhone 17 Pro is less than five months away, and today a new render from X user kanedacane provides a fresh look at what the device’s unibody camera design might look like.

iPhone 17 Pro unibody rear design visualized in new render

When the flagship iPhone 17 lineup is revealed this fall, Apple has several noteworthy design changes in store.

Some of the most exciting changes revolve around the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air, but the Pro line will get design updates too—especially around the rear camera system.

Leaks have repeatedly shown that Apple will use a new ‘camera bar’ design on both the iPhone 17 Air and the Pro and Pro Max models.

With the Pro line, this change was initially thought to usher in a two-tone back of the device, with the camera bar one shade while everything else below it is another.

But Mark Gurman recently wrote:

The iPhone 17 Pro won’t have a two-toned back, I’m told. The camera area will be the same color as the rest of the device.

I’ve a feeling we might have an M1 iPad Pro sort of camera with inlayed glass. And all the renders assume Apple hasn’t thought of something clever to do with all that dead space on the bump. Cupertino don’t do things by accident: that space may well house a bigger Xenon flash and higher res LiDAR Scanner or even an additional sensor nobody has thought of.

Today’s new X render from kanedacane offers a good look at what this unibody camera finish could look like.

As is true every year, we’ll need to withhold judgment until Apple shows off its final iPhone 17 Pro look.

But first reaction? I’m not sold on it just yet. While the finished product will surely differ in subtle ways from any renders created today, my initial take is that a two-tone design could have been a better look.
