Apple planning new Mac external display, MacBooks, iPads, and more for early 2026

Apple is planning for a busy start to 2026. A new report from Bloomberg details that Apple is working on updates for various iPhone, iPad, and Mac models destined for the first half of 2026.

Perhaps most exciting for many people, however, is that Apple is also planning to release a new external display for the Mac next year.

Here is what Bloomberg says is in the works for the first half of 2026:

  • New MacBook Pro powered by the M5 chip, “the last with the current design”
  • New iPad Air powered by the M4 chip, but otherwise largely unchanged
  • New entry-level iPad with a faster chip, but otherwise largely unchanged
  • New MacBook Air
  • iPhone 17e powered by the A19 chip with a design similar to the iPhone 16e
  • New Mac external monitor

Mark Gurman explains that Apple had initially targeted to release the new M5 MacBook Pro lineup later this year. Internally, however, that timeline has apparently shifted to the first half of 2026. While the M5 MacBook Pro will largely resemble the current design, Apple is reportedly planning “new cases and a move to OLED” for the M6 generation.

There aren’t any details about what to expect from the new external monitor. This would be Apple’s first new external display since releasing the Studio Display in 2022. Previous rumors have suggested Apple is working on multiple new external display products. 9to5Mac has also reported on Apple’s development of an external display with a 7K resolution.

I'm hoping for a Studio display in a larger size. 32-inch would be perfect. 27 is just too small. You can forget stepping up to the 32 inch XDR display at $5k. I'm not that desperate for an Apple product. Only two things have kept me from buying a Studio display- the size and the fact it costs $400 on top of an already painful price just to get an adjustable stand. Almost every $300 monitor these days has a fully adjustable stand. At $1600 for a small 27" display Apple can't include it?

Finally, there’s also the ongoing saga around Apple’s smart home display product. This device was originally slated to be released during the first half of 2025, but Gurman now reports that it was “delayed indefinitely” due to its reliance on unreleased Apple Intelligence features. “That device may now arrive in the first half of next year,” Bloomberg says.

Of course, Apple has plenty of other product updates coming later this year. Those include the iPhone 17 lineup, new Apple Watch and Apple Watch Ultra updates, an updated Vision Pro powered by the M4 chip, and an updated iPad Pro lineup powered by the M5 chip.
