Shrinking season 3 is coming to Apple TV+, with big new guest stars, fresh love interests, and a lot more. Here’s everything we know so far about Shrinking’s return.
Season 3 focuses on ‘moving forward‘
Shrinking co-creator Bill Lawrence has long said that his plan for the show centers around three main themes:
- Grief was season 1’s theme
- Forgiveness was season 2’s
- Moving forward will be season 3’s
‘Moving forward’ will complete the initial three-season arc that Lawrence originally had in mind.
So expect to see significant life changes and character development happen throughout season 3, as not only Jason Segel’s Jimmy but also Harrison Ford’s Paul, Jessica Williams’ Gaby, and more all seek to move forward in life despite the troubles they’ve faced.
Big new guest stars joining cast
Joining Shrinking’s excellent ensemble will be several new and returning players.
Michael J. Fox will guest star on the show as a key figure in Harrison Ford’s character’s battle with Parkinson’s.
Jeff Daniels is also joining Shrinking this year, in a new role playing Jimmy’s father.
New love interests are also set to appear in Shrinking season 3:
- Cobie Smulders, who made a brief season 2 appearance, will be seen a lot more this season
- Isabella Gomez is playing the love interest of Sean, Luke Tennie’s character
Additionally, Brett Goldstein (also known as Roy Kent) is coming back too following his weighty season 2 arc.
Where does Shrinking go after season 3?
Bill Lawrence’s Ted Lasso wrapped up neatly in season 3, then later was revived after a long delay. Does Shrinking’s similar three-year arc mean the show might end after the new season?
Fortunately, Lawrence told TV Line he is “very confident” Shrinking will continue for more seasons.
“We always knew how [Season 3] would end,” he says. “Very intentionally, it feels, I hope, like a super satisfying end to the story we’re telling — but it does not feel like there’s nothing left to talk about. I think people will see when the episodes [are released] what we’re leaning into…. But for us to go forward [with Season 4], we have to tell a different story than the one we’ve been telling for three seasons. We know what it is, and we’re even putting some Easter eggs about that in the show.”
When to expect Shrinking season 3 on Apple TV+
Apple hasn’t announced an official release date for Shrinking season 3 yet. But we can make a pretty good guess when the show will return.
Shrinking’s first two seasons premiered in January 2023 and October 2024, respectively. Also, Apple recently announced that season 3 of Shrinking has officially completed production.
Based on previous patterns, Shrinking season 3 will likely premiere in early 2026 on Apple TV+.
We could see a debut as early as January, or perhaps shortly after.
