iPhone 17 event date announcement is coming

The most likely iPhone 17 event date is now the rumored iPhone 17 event date. No surprises there. But when should we expect Apple to actually confirm the date of its next big product reveal, and what should you make of event invite “leaks” on social media?

iPhone 17 event right on schedule

Save for a few exceptions, Apple typically announces new flagship iPhone models in the second week of September each year. This year appears to be following the pattern with an event rumored for Tuesday, September 9th. If the usual pattern sticks, we should expect iPhone 17 pre-orders to go live on Friday, September 12th, and the first hardware to reach customers a week later on Friday, September 19th.

So far there are no rumors about any particular iPhone 17 model being delayed, but there’s certainly precedent for some models shipping later in previous years. For example, the iPhone X actually shipped in November in 2017 following the iPhone 8 launch in September that year. In other years, Apple has released newer variations in October. It just depends on production timelines.

For now, we expect four new iPhones to be unveiled in September: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the newest style with iPhone 17 Air.

When will Apple make it official?

While we expect Apple to actually announce the new iPhone lineup next month, we can probably anticipate an announcement about the event itself later this month. Here are some recent iPhone event dates and event announcement dates to provide context:

ModelEvent AnnouncementEvent DateDelta
iPhone 16Monday, August 26Monday, September 914 days
iPhone 15Tuesday, August 29Tuesday, September 1214 days
iPhone 14Wednesday, August 24Wednesday, September 714 days
iPhone 13Tuesday, September 7Tuesday, September 147 days
iPhone 12Tuesday, October 6Tuesday, October 137 days
iPhone 11Thursday, August 29Tuesday, September 1012 days

As you can see, things got weird around the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13, but 2020 and 2021 were tough years to plan around, considering the global pandemic and all.

Apple still favors Tuesdays for event announcements and event dates. For the last three years, Apple has provided a consistent two-week window between announcing an iPhone event and holding an iPhone event.

For those reasons, we can probably expect Apple to make things official this year on Tuesday, August 26. That’s just three weeks from today. Of course, the event date is only rumored for now, and the event announcement speculation is based on historical pattern. That means everything is still up in the air for now, but we’re due to see a clever event tagline later this month in all likelihood.

As of today, we’re probably 12 days away from the event invitation actually going live. In the meantime, the annual fake event invitation has already made the rounds.

If Apple ever does accidentally leak an invitation, no one will believe it after years of these attention-seeking fake event invites.

What are you most excited to see? The iPhone 17 lineup? Maybe the successor to AirPods Pro 2 after a few years? Let us know in the comments!
