iPhone 17: These new models may include more RAM and storage

We’re only days away from Apple’s iPhone 17 event on September 9, and today TrendForce outlined its latest expectations for the new lineup—including RAM and storage upgrades for several models.

RAM and storage boosts expected for most iPhone 17 models

Today TrendForce published its latest projections for what Apple will announce on September 9.

The report summarizes what we’ve largely already been expecting, with a couple notable changes.

On the RAM front, here’s what’s expected:

  • iPhone 17: 8GB (same as iPhone 16)
  • iPhone 17 Air: 12GB (up from 8GB in 16 Plus)
  • iPhone 17 Pro: 12GB (up from 8GB in 16 Pro)
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max: 12GB (up from 8GB in 16 Pro Max)

These significant memory boosts across most of the lineup is undoubtedly a reflection of the growing role of AI and on-device processing needs.

Regarding storage options, Apple is expected to offer changes across multiple iPhone 17 models too.

  • iPhone 17: 128GB / 256GB / 512GB
  • iPhone 17 Air: 256GB / 512GB / 1TB (higher starting storage, drops 128GB option)
  • iPhone 17 Pro: 256GB / 512GB / 1TB (higher starting storage, drops 128GB option)
  • iPhone 17 Pro Max: 256GB / 512GB / 1TB

Essentially, Apple is raising the base storage to 256GB on the Air and Pro models and making it the default in nearly every new iPhone 17.

The memory upgrades mentioned by TrendForce have been widely reported before, as have some of the storage options. However, Apple raising the Air base storage to 256GB is something we haven’t seen before.

TrendForce similarly expects premium pricing for the iPhone 17 Air that is much higher than analyst consensus.

It’s unclear what exactly these divergent 17 Air expectations are based on. They do, however, raise the possibility that Apple could surprise with higher prices and try to offset the increase with more storage.
