Apple Watch Ultra 3: Here’s every new feature expected next week

Apple Watch Ultra 3 is almost here, with an unveiling expected at Apple’s September 9 event. Here’s every new feature rumored for the long-awaited Apple Watch Ultra 3.

Larger display with always-on upgrades

Last year, Apple Watch Series 10 managed to surpass the Apple Watch Ultra’s screen size just barely.

Now, Apple Watch Ultra 3 is rumored to reclaim that crown. Its display size will increase, giving it the largest Apple Watch display yet.

Alongside the new size, Ultra 3 is expected to gain some of the display enhancements that Series 10 debuted last year, including:

  • Always-on refreshes every second due to LTPO3
  • Wide-angle OLED for better off-angle viewing

Improved performance with S11

Apple has a new S11 SiP ready for its latest Apple Watch models, including the Ultra 3.

Details on performance improvements are unknown so far, but since the Ultra 2 is now two years old, the S11 should hopefully offer a meaningful upgrade over that previous S9 SiP.

Plus, now that Apple Intelligence is a thing in watchOS 26, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Apple pack even more performance enhancements into Ultra 3.

New 5G and satellite connectivity

Apple Watch Ultra has always been marketed as a product for adventurers and explorers. But the Ultra 3 will easily be the best option yet for those uses.

For the first time, Apple Watch Ultra will gain support for 5G cellular speeds. This will happen through 5G RedCap, a special variant of 5G designed for low power consumption.

Additionally, satellite connectivity is coming to Ultra 3 for those situations where you can’t get a cell signal. Satellite support will enable sending emergency messages when you’re otherwise unreachable.

Wildcards: High blood pressure detection and new watch faces

One of the longest-running Apple Watch Ultra 3 rumors involves a new health feature: high blood pressure detection.

Apple is always looking to add new sensors and health capabilities to the Watch, and hypertension detection has long been expected for this year.

However, in a new Bloomberg report, it sounds like Apple has run into “regulatory and engineering challenges” with the feature which might mean it’s not ready for launch—but that’s unclear.

Another wildcard is new or updated watch faces. Apple Watch Ultra’s exclusive faces are a key reason I’m considering going Ultra for the first time, and it’s likely Apple will have something new to show with the Ultra 3.
