GitHub now supports ‘Sign in with Apple’ for new and existing accounts

You can now use your Apple Account for new and existing accounts on GitHub. Here’s how it works.

Since 2019, Apple has offered “Sign in with Apple,” a privacy-focused alternative to social logins like Google or Facebook. The feature allows users to create and sign in to apps, services, platforms, and websites, with the option to hide their actual email address.

Here’s Apple on the benefits of the feature:

With Sign in with Apple, you can sign in to participating websites and apps with your Apple Account. You don’t need to create and remember new passwords, and your account is protected with two-factor authentication. You can share your Sign in with Apple access with family and trusted contacts.

Sign in with Apple is designed to respect your privacy. Websites and apps can ask only for your name and email address to set up your account, and Apple won’t track you as you use them.

Sign in with Apple requires two-factor authentication for your Apple Account. This protects your Apple Account, your app accounts, and your app content.

Now, GitHub has finally announced support for Sign in with Apple, as an alternative to the Google login that it has had for a while.

As GitHub explains it, users can sign up with their Apple Account or link it to an existing profile:

You can create a new GitHub account using your Apple or Google credentials in just a few clicks. Or link your trusted social login email with your existing GitHub accounts, securing them further by eliminating the need to create and manage a separate GitHub password. For enhanced security, we recommend enabling two-factor authentication (2FA) and adding a passkey or a password for account recovery.
