macOS 26.1 beta 3 changes polarizing Macintosh HD icon

It turns out Apple TV isn’t the only new icon in today’s 26.1 beta 3 OS releases. Remember the controversial hard drive icon in macOS Tahoe from over the summer? Apple shipped the design, but it looks like a new version is coming after all.

macOS Tahoe 26 includes the Liquid Glass redesign and updated icon set that iOS 26 and other Apple platforms deliver this year.

Apple took the opportunity to update the classic hard disk drive for the Macintosh HD icon to one that more accurately resembles the solid state drives used in modern Macs.

A 3D object doesn’t make sense for the new Apple LG language. How does that icon represent internal SSD storage, that object is not inside the computer. It looks a bit like a USB drive - but external drives are 3D objects and their icons represent that connection.

How on earth are these being signed off by management.
