Apple’s Sports app just got better for NFL and college football fans

Apple’s Sports app has quickly become my favorite way to keep up with live sports scores, and a new update should make the app even better for NFL and college sports fans.

Apple Sports adds drive chart to Live Activities for NFL and college football games

Apple has just released a new version 3.4 update to its Sports app.

Here are the App Store release notes:

  • Now it’s easier for NFL and college football fans to follow games in real time, with a new drive chart in Live Activities.
  • Additional updates to help you keep up with your favorite sports.

The “additional updates” bit seems like another way of saying “bug fixes and performance improvements.”

But I’m especially excited about the one improvement that’s actually detailed: football drive charts in Live Activities.

Apple’s Sports app has long specialized in providing as real-time of updates as possible, and often the best place to get those updates is via a Live Activity.

Being able to get a drive chart inside the Live Activity for NFL and college football games is a fantastic addition. It will enable seeing more fine-grained status updates for a game right from the iPhone Lock Screen.

Though we won’t be able to see what the drive chart looks like until tonight’s Monday Night Football games kicks off, based on the in-app drive chart’s design, I expect we’ll see something similar in the Live Activity.

Are you using Apple’s Sports app, and what are your favorite features? Let us know in the comments.
