It’s turning into a busy week for leaks around Apple’s new A20 chip line for next year’s iPhones. Yesterday brought word of much higher costs associated with the new 2nm process, and today a leaker has revealed what chip to expect for Apple’s first foldable iPhone.
iPhone Fold will be getting the high-end A20 Pro chip
Weibo leaker Mobile Phone Chip Expert (MPCE) has today detailed Apple’s plans for the A20 chip line.
Like has become common for Apple, the leaker says the A20 will come in two versions:
- A20 for the base iPhone 18
- A20 Pro for iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, and the new foldable
Curiously, no mention is made of the expected iPhone Air 2.
Based on the current iPhone Air offering the A19 Pro, however, it’s almost certain we’ll see the higher end A20 Pro chip included in the Air 2.

Apple’s decision to continue its two-tier approach for iPhone chips is no surprise. However, the most noteworthy detail is MPCE’s indication that the A20 Pro chip will be included in the foldable model.
Since the foldable is a brand new model altogether, there was always a chance that Apple might create a special variant of the A-series chip to meet its needs.
For example, if Apple ends up calling it the iPhone Ultra, a special A20 Ultra chip that’s custom-tailored for the unique requirements of a foldable seemed possible.
Now though, based on this leak, it sounds like Apple plans not to overcomplicate things, and will stick with its typical two-chip approach with A20 and A20 Pro.
