Apple TV has two big new thriller series, with even more coming soon

Apple TV has increasingly become one of the best streamers for thriller series. Here are two big new crime thrillers airing now, and a preview of three more series right around the corner.

Down Cemetery Road and The Last Frontier offer differing takes on the crime thriller

Down Cemetery Road

This week, Apple debuted a new detective series from the author behind Slow Horses.

Down Cemetery Road stars Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson and shares a lot in common with the popular Gary Oldman-starring espionage thriller.

Both series, in addition to being based on novels by Mick Herron, also share writer Morwenna Banks. Viewers will find a lot of similar thematic balance of heavy subject matter lightened by British humor.

Reviews so far are very positive, especially in praising leads Thompson and Wilson.

Whereas Down Cemetery Road leans into the detective/mystery angle of a crime thriller, The Last Frontier offers something different.

The Last Frontier stars Jason Clarke as a U.S. Marshal in rural Alaska who has a plane full of violent inmates crash and get set loose in his jurisdiction.

The series is from The Blacklist creator Jon Bokenkamp and laden with action sequences and high-octane thrills.

Both series are full of twists, and are still early in their rollouts, making it easy to get caught up and join other viewers watching week to week.

Down Cemetery Road will continue releasing new episodes through December 10, while The Last Frontier wraps up December 5.

Three more thrillers coming: The Hunt, Hijack, The Savant

For even more thriller series, Apple TV has several more premieres coming soon:

  • The Hunt
  • Hijack season 2
  • The Savant

The Hunt is a French-language series debuting December 3 where a friend group of recreational hunters get turned into the hunted.

Hijack premiered its first season in 2023 and instantly became one of Apple TV’s best thrillers. The Idris Elba-starring series is back for season 2 on January 14 with a train-set story.

The Savant was supposed to debut last month but got delayed indefinitely. Apple still says it’s “Coming Soon,” so hopefully that proves true. The limited series stars Jessica Chastain going undercover in online hate groups with the aim of stopping domestic terrorists.
