WhatsApp for Mac now lets you customize chat themes

With the update rolling out today, Mac users will have 38 color options to customize their WhatsApp chats, like on the iPhone version. Here’s how it works.

Multiple preset and customizable options available

As spotted by WABetaInfo, the latest WhatsApp update for Mac adds a new customization setting that lets users choose from 38 color options for their chats, bringing feature parity with the iOS version of the app. This includes 22 preset options, as well as customizable color and brightness settings.

As usual, the future will slowly be rolled out to all users in the coming weeks, but you can check if you have it under Settings > Chats.

Here’s WABetaInfo on the new feature:

“Just like in WhatsApp Messenger, these themes automatically adjust the message bubble and background colors to create a consistent visual style. Users can also upload their own images as wallpapers, apply themes globally or to individual chats, and even combine solid colors with subtle design elements.”

They also note that themes don’t sync between devices, which in practice means that users can set one color scheme for a specific chat on the Mac, and another color scheme for that same chat on the iPhone.
