iPhone 17 Pro has a bigger battery than ever, making charging speed an increasingly important feature. ChargerLAB published its findings after testing the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s charging speeds, and the results show big upgrades over last year.
Charging speeds for iPhone 17 Pro Max hit 36W, up 20% over last year

Last year, the iPhone 16 Pro set new records for iPhone charging speeds by topping out around 30W. That was about a 20% increase over iPhone 15 Pro.
But it seems Apple has another big year of charging gains this year.
iPhone 17 Pro Max was tested by ChargerLAB with 15 different Apple chargers.
The results showed charging speeds that went up to 36W—which makes for another 20% year-over-year gain.
You can hit this max 36W speed with a variety of Apple chargers, including the new 40W Dynamic Power Adapter that excels in fast charging.
Apple’s MagSafe charger impressed by offering 32W charging speeds. But for anything faster than that, a wired charging connection using an Apple 40W charger or higher offered the best results.

Larger iPhone batteries are a great addition no matter what, but it’s nice to see Apple regularly boost charging speeds alongside those gains.
It’s mostly a psychological issue, but if my iPhone’s larger battery made it appear to charge slower than before, I’d see that as a regression—even if overall capacity improved.
