New iPhone 18 Pro design will reportedly make two key changes

Supply chain leaks indicate Apple is currently finalizing details for next fall’s iPhone 18 line, and the latest reporting says the new iPhone 18 Pro will come with at least two key design changes.

Design changes coming to iPhone 18 Pro’s front and back

This year’s iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max debuted a bold new design that stands apart from previous Pro models in several ways.

A big part of that change was the choice to go a new direction with colors. Cosmic Orange is the color of the season, following years of muted gray, black, and white variations.

Apple also debuted a new two-tone rear design, with the glass cutout appearing very distinct from the aluminum frame. And of course, it expanded the camera bump into a full-width plateau too.

Many aspects of the iPhone 18 Pro design are expected to closely resemble this year’s models. But at least two areas are currently rumored to change:

  1. Dynamic Island
  2. Back glass cutout

Originally, rumors indicated iPhone 18 Pro would drop the Dynamic Island, replacing it with a new hole-punch design.

More recently though, two sources have indicated we’re only getting a smaller Dynamic Island.

Instant Digital said as much in September, and now today, a new report from Jeff Pu seen by 9to5Mac corroborates that iPhone 18 Pro will have a “smaller Dynamic Island.”

Meanwhile, the back of the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to get a refresh too.

Posts from Weibo leakers Digital Chat Station and Instant Digital say Apple is implementing a new process for the back glass cutout to make it blend more seamlessly with the aluminum frame. Here’s a translation of Instant Digital’s post:

The iPhone 18 Pro series features a redesigned back glass that minimizes color difference between the glass and the aluminum back panel. A seamless, unified look.

Finally, new color options are expected as always, and Apple might make iPhone 18 Pro Max extra thick to pack a bigger battery. I wouldn’t be surprised if the same happens with the smaller iPhone 18 Pro.
