ChatGPT just made voice mode even more capable

ChatGPT has an impressive voice mode that offers a very natural, conversational flow. The latest update to ChatGPT now combines voice mode with the main text mode by default.

OpenAI shows off some advantages of the new voice mode design. For instance, ChatGPT can show map results from voice mode now. It also displays a transcript of the voice mode conversation in the chat interface.

However, if you strictly want an audio experience, you can switch back to the old voice mode design for now. There’s a new toggle in the app’s settings to revert back to separate mode.

OpenAI also recently released shopping research, improvements to its Atlas AI browser, group chat, and the new GPT-5.1 model.
