New OLED iPad mini gets launch timing update from leaker

Previous reports have indicated Apple is planning an OLED iPad mini for launch as early as next year, but a reputable leaker just offered updated launch timing for the new product.

New iPad mini with OLED expected no sooner than fall 2026

Mark Gurman at Bloomberg has previously reported that Apple’s next iPad mini will get a big display upgrade, moving from LCD to OLED.

As for launch timing, Gurman has only said “as early as next year.”

But Instant Digital just narrowed that window.

In a pair of posts on Weibo today, the leaker said we shouldn’t expect to see the new iPad mini in the first half of 2026. Instead, he writes the following (English translation):

The earliest it will be released is the third or fourth quarter of next year.

The last couple of iPad mini models have been released in October and September, respectively. So a fall launch for the new OLED model would be consistent with that.

We are still expecting new base iPad and iPad Air models earlier in the year. So prior to this report, it seemed very possible that the new iPad mini would arrive in early 2026 as well.

But now it appears anyone in the market for an iPad mini with OLED will need to wait until at least next September.
