Apple today unveiled the new MacBook Neo, which starts at an impressive $599. I’m in New York City for Apple’s corresponding press “experience,” and just spent some time checking out the MacBook Neo in person.
The “Apple Experience,” as it’s called, consisted of John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of hardware engineering, walking out on stage to recap the announcements made so far this week. He then introduced the MacBook Neo, saying “life is just better when you’re using a Mac.”
After that, we were shuffled behind the makeshift stage to check out the new MacBook Neo in person.
The MacBook Neo comes in four colors: blush, indigo, silver, and what Apple calls a “fresh new citrus.”
My first impressions of those colors is that they are fantastic. Apple gets bonus points for color-matching the keyboards, too. The shade of the colors can vary quite a bit by lighting and angle, similar to the other MacBook colors Apple sells like sky blue.
The $599 starting price is less than I was expecting. I thought maybe it’d start at $599 for education shoppers. As it turns out, it starts at $499 for education buyers and $599 for everyone else. That’s just nuts.
What do you think of the MacBook Neo? Does it offer the right balance of price and tradeoffs? Let us know down in the comments.
