Apple TV’s star-packed new comedy sounds like a winner, per reviews

Margo’s Got Money Troubles is one of Apple TV’s most anticipated premieres this spring, and the first reviews are extremely positive.

Margo’s Got Money Troubles delivers strong adaptation of bestselling novel

A pair of high-profile Apple original series are coming soon. Next week the thriller Imperfect Women premieres, and next month the star-studded Margo’s Got Money Troubles arrives.

Margo’s Got Money Troubles hits Apple TV on Wednesday, April 15 with three episodes, followed by weekly releases through May 20.

The series premiered at SXSW last night in Austin, after which the review embargo dropped. So far, praise has been universal for the new comedy.

Here’s a sampling of review excerpts:

  • Esquire: “It has all the right makings of another modern TV classic thanks to powerful lead performances…We’ll see whether or not the show enters the race for the best TV of the year, but it has heart where it counts.“
  • IndieWire: “Everything about Margo’s Got Money Troubles screams “Emmy campaign,” from an awards-targeted Spring release and esteemed creative team…to its impressive cast…and their sweet-yet-serious roles, so perfectly calibrated to woo viewers and voters alike.”
  • The Hollywood Reporter: “Though Margo’s Got Money Troubles is the rare show that feels just about the right length…I still felt a bit sorry to see them go at season’s end.”

Rufi Thorpe’s novel that inspired the show is beloved, and it sounds like Apple has managed to craft a similarly powerful adaptation.

The show hails from David E. Kelley and stars Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer, Nicole Kidman, Nick Offerman, Thaddea Graham, Marcia Gay Harden, Greg Kinnear, and more.

Now that reviews and the trailer are here, Margo sounds a lot like a Bill Lawrence-style heartfelt comedy-drama. It’s no wonder the show is premiering exactly one week after Shrinking season 3 ends.

Apple TV is available for $12.99 per month, or you can get it discounted through the Apple One bundle.
