Severance season 3 gets timing update, new characters teased

Today Deadline shared video from an interview with Severance star Adam Scott in which the actor provided updates on season 3 filming, teased new characters coming, and confirmed the incoming director.

Adam Scott talks Severance season 3 filming start, new characters and director

Adam Scott spoke to Deadline and shared brief updates on the forthcoming Severance season 3. You can watch video of the interview on TikTok.

Previous reporting indicated the new season would begin filming in April. When asked about the start date for Severance season 3, Scott all but confirmed that.

We’re starting very soon…Very, very soon. I’ll put two “verys” on that.

Scott is then asked if anyone new is joining that he’s excited about. Here’s his response: “There will be exciting new characters, and we’ll kind of…get to that when we get to that.”

Lastly, the Deadline interviewer asks: “Have you met with Kogonada?”

Scott responds: “Oh yeah, yeah yeah. He’s incredible. He’s just a beautiful filmmaker and such a lovely guy. We couldn’t be more thrilled.”

Though it hasn’t been officially confirmed, World of Reel reported yesterday that famed director Kogonada would be filling Ben Stiller’s shoes as director for “most, if not all of the episodes” in season 3.

Scott’s response serves as strong confirmation of Kogonada’s involvement.

Stiller, despite directing 11 episodes over the first two seasons, previously announced that he would not be directing any of season 3. He remains heavily involved in the series creatively, but said another film commitment led him to step away from the director’s chair.

If Severance’s filming schedule proceeds as expected, we’ll likely see season 3 premiere on Apple TV in mid-to-late 2027.

Apple TV is available for $12.99 per month, or you can get it discounted through the Apple One bundle.
