iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max are just six months away, and rumors indicate they’ll get at least one camera upgrade that’s exclusive to the Pro line.
Telephoto camera improving in iPhone 18 Pro with larger aperture
Every year, Apple launches new and improved iPhones, and every year you can count on upgrades to the camera system.
In the iPhone 18 line, rumors indicate a new variable aperture feature is coming to the Main camera on at least some models. Also, the Ultra Wide camera might be a new Samsung-produced lens across the full lineup, replacing Sony.
There’s one camera improvement rumored that’s exclusive to iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max: a larger aperture Telephoto lens.

Even though Apple’s iPhone 18 line could consist of six new models, the Telephoto camera is expected to remain limited to Pro models. iPhone Fold, iPhone Air 2, and iPhone 18’s second rear cameras will all reportedly be Ultra Wide.
iPhone 17 Pro upgraded the Telephoto camera with a new 48MP sensor with 8x zoom, but now the iPhone 18 Pro’s larger aperture will push the camera further.
With a larger aperture, the upgraded Telephoto should work better in low-light situations, with sharper, brighter, more detailed images even in less-than-ideal conditions.
The current Telephoto camera performs great when the sun is out, but struggles in darker environments. I’m excited to see how much Apple can improve that this year with iPhone 18 Pro.
