Severance has two spinoff series in discussion, teases Ben Stiller

Severance season 3 is actively in the works, but that’s apparently not the only new development brewing. In a new interview, Ben Stiller revealed that two spinoff ideas are being explored by Severance’s creative team.

Stiller teases two ideas brewing for Severance spinoffs

Variety has just published a new article featuring interviews with two of the biggest creatives involved with Severance: Ben Stiller and star Adam Scott.

The piece includes several interesting tidbits about the show, including that Stiller once was planning to act in it himself.

But the biggest reveal had to do with potential plans to expand the world of Severance beyond a single show.

Ethan Shanfeld writes at Variety:

Do you see “Severance” as a franchise with spinoff shows? Stiller speaks slowly: “There are two specific ideas — that I won’t tell you — that we’ve talked about internally as possible spinoff ideas.” Asked what stage of development the spinoff ideas are in, or whether they have been discussed with Apple, all Stiller says, with a coy smile, is: “They are nascent.”

Stiller declined to comment on several of Shanfeld’s other questions, particularly as they relate to Severance season 3.

So it’s actually a bit surprising he was so forthcoming about spinoff ideas being in the works.

It makes a lot of sense for a show as popular as Severance to inspire ideas for expanded reach.

Apple TV+ isn’t entirely new to the spinoff game either. Recently Mythic Quest spawned the brief anthology series Side Quest, and For All Mankind is getting a spinoff soon too.
