First reference to MacBook with A18 Pro discovered in Apple code

Earlier today, Ming-Chi Kuo reported that a new, cheaper MacBook would include the iPhone’s A18 Pro chip. Now, the first reference to the device has been discovered in Apple code.

Last summer, Apple inadvertently leaked future product listings in code related to Apple Intelligence.

As shared by Aaron Perris at the time, the code leaked several iPhone 16 and 17 models, plus referenced a variety of Mac and iPad models.

Nearly a year later, MacRumors reports today that one such device listed—“Mac 17, 1”—has now been discovered to be running an A18 Pro chip.

Thus, it seems Apple code from last year referenced the forthcoming MacBook with an iPhone chip that Ming-Chi Kuo outlined today.

No other details about the device have been found in Apple code, other than the “Mac 17, 1” reference and confirmation of the A18 Pro chip.

Apple debuted its A18 Pro chip last fall in the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max. As a result, it seems odd that the new, cheaper MacBook would include it rather than this fall’s A19 Pro.

Kuo says the MacBook will have a 13-inch screen, similar to the smaller MacBook Air, and come in four potential colors: silver, blue, pink, and yellow. Release is expected in late 2025 or early 2026.

We don’t yet know how Apple might brand this new product. It could use the standard ‘MacBook’ naming that was discontinued when the 12-inch MacBook stopped being produced.
