No notch? macOS 26 onboarding video sparks MacBook speculation

Apple includes a new onboarding experience for iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS 26. An eagle-eyed X user pointed out something interesting about the macOS Tahoe video.

This is the onboarding video that will play after upgrading to macOS 26:

Notice anything odd? Noah did.

It’s true. There’s no notch on the MacBook Air in the video. I captured screenshots after updating to macOS 26 beta 6 today. The on-device version also lacks the notch.

So what’s going on here? The MacBook Pro is barely rumored to be losing the notch, and that may not happen until 2027.

The video file was created with Adobe After Effects. The most likely explanation is that the content being displayed in the video is a layer placed over the MacBook Air device frame. Doing so could easily cover the notch. Or maybe Apple just preferred no notch in the video!

Either way, don’t hold your breath for a notch-free MacBook Air coming anytime soon. Look for this version of the onboarding video to possibly change in macOS 26 beta 7.
