This iMac G3 LEGO idea is as unlikely to get approved as it is awesome

Every once in a while, an Apple-related project gets submitted to LEGO’s Product Ideas page. Just recently, the LEGO Apple Store concept quickly blew past the 10,000-vote threshold needed to enter official review. Now, a new submission is making the rounds, and it is pretty cool.

‘I wanted people to pick up this nostalgic computer again’

Developed by fan designer terauma, this 700-part project features the classic Bondi Blue iMac G3 along with the “hockey puck” mouse and keyboard, properly wired with their iconic translucent and yellowing-prone cables.

Here’s the project’s official description, which features a nice callback to the famous “never trust a computer you can’t lift!” quote:

The iMac G3 was released in 1998.
The bold design, which overturned the conventional image, attracted many people and became the beginning of the later translucent boom.
When I was a kid, my brother and I often played games on this iMac.

By releasing this set at LEGO, I wanted people to pick up this nostalgic computer again.

Built with a total of about 700 parts.
made extensive use of the characteristic clear parts and built the building to be a little smaller than it actually is.
Inside, the cathode ray tube and board are reproduced, and a keyboard and USB mouse are also included.

Since it was posted on May 17, the project has received almost 4,500 votes, and it has another 139 days left to reach 5,000 supporters and proceed to the next phase.

Would Apple ever let this be produced? Not likely. Did I vote anyway? Absolutely.
