Apple releases macOS Tahoe 26.1 developer beta 2

Two weeks after releasing the first developer beta of macOS 26.1, the company is now rolling out developer beta 2, ahead of its official launch in a fiew weeks. Here’s what to expect.

Bug fixes and AI groundwork

The build rolling out to developers right now is 25B5057f.

The first developer beta of macOS Tahoe 26.1 brought a few interesting tidbits under the hood, including a framework that will bring MCP support to macOS and other platforms, as well as some behind-the-scenes adjustments to expand Image Playground compatibility beyond ChatGPT.

As expected, macOS Tahoe 26.1 will also bring bug fixes and performance improvements following the release of version 26.0 last month.

We’re already digging through todays betas and will report back if we find anything noteworthy.

How to install the new beta

Here’s how to install the macOS Tahoe 26.1 developer beta 2:

  1. Backup your Mac
  2. Open System Settings
  3. Go to General ⇾ Software Update
  4. Click the ‘i’ icon next to Beta Updates
  5. From the dropdown menu in the top-right, select the macOS Developer Tahoe Beta
  6. Hit ‘Done’
