OpenAI set to unveil AI browser with ChatGPT integration [U: Now available]

OpenAI will make a new product announcement today at 10 am PT/1 pm ET, according to a teaser on social media. As for what’s coming, the six-second clip leaves little to the imagination. It shows what appear to be browser tabs.

OpenAI has been developing a web browser with ChatGPT integration for some time now. Meanwhile, Perplexity already shipped its AI-focused Comet browser, first offered as part of a $200-per-month subscription, then as a free tool.

Will OpenAI’s first-ever browser be available for free or require a paid subscription to start? We’ll know in a few hours. In the meantime, here’s the super short teaser:

Update: According to the placeholder YouTube live stream, the browser will be called ChatGPT Atlas and launch first on the Mac. The video description says versions on Windows, iOS, and Android “are coming soon.”

OpenAI says Atlas is available for “Free, Plus, Pro, and Go users and can be downloaded at chatgpt.com/atlas” starting today.

It includes a preview of something called ChatGPT agent mode that browse the web and manage your browser for you. Agent mode requires a Plus or Pro subscription.

ChatGPT Atlas optionally includes memory support, which bridges your conversations between ChatGPT and Atlas to create a single knowledge base. The browser also accepts natural language input for tasks like cleaning up tabs and finding something you searched for in a previous browsing session.
