Apple Maps EV routing in CarPlay expands to Toyota vehicles

Apple Maps EV routing arrived back in 2022 in the first supported vehicles, and has slowly expanded support over time. The latest addition is Toyota BEVs from 2023 and newer, here are the details.

Toyota rolls out Apple Maps EV routing for 2023 and newer vehicles

When using navigation for an EV, it’s extremely helpful to have your navigation app be able to account for charging needs along the way.

That’s why Apple first announced EV routing support for Apple Maps several years ago. It works like this:

When you get driving directions, Maps can track your vehicle’s charge. By analyzing elevation changes along the route and other factors, Maps identifies appropriate charging stations along the way, and, for select charging providers and countries, it provides real-time charging station availability. If you drive until your charge gets too low, you’re offered a route to the nearest compatible charging station.

Sounds great, right?

But due to the special integration needed with a vehicle’s battery status, automakers have to first work with Apple to enable the feature before it can be available to consumers.

As you might expect, progress has been slow.

Recently though, Apple Maps EV routing expanded to Toyota vehicles.

Announced alongside Toyota’s new 2026 bZ last week, the company says that it has rolled out Apple Maps EV Routing in CarPlay to all 2023 and newer BEVs.

Toyota’s full roster of BEVs is limited to the bZ and its predecessors, so don’t get too excited.

However, considering there were only three other supported vehicles before now, every bit of progress is worth celebrating.
