New rumor makes ‘iPhone Ultra’ foldable next year seem more likely

After years in development, Apple’s first foldable iPhone is coming next year as a high-end new model. Today an analyst has shared a very high expected price for the new foldable that might, in my opinion, push Apple to call it ‘iPhone Ultra.’

Analyst expects $2,399 price for the first foldable iPhone

All signs indicate that foldable smartphones are finally becoming mainstream.

Samsung exec Drew Blackard recently said as much, and he attributed that shift to the products actually getting very good following years of iteration.

Now on our seventh generation, we’ve addressed consumer feedback year after year and have arrived at the kind of experience you can’t get on any other device.

Apple’s timing with its first foldable iPhone, then, is clearly no coincidence. As we’ve seen with the advancements of iPhone Air, and rumors about a new crease-free design, technology seems to finally be at the point where a truly great foldable can launch.

One big outstanding question though is price, with rumors largely indicating Apple’s ‘iPhone Fold’ will likely cost around $2,000.

But a new analyst report from Fubon Research says that’s too low.

Citing supply chain analysis and Apple’s typical margins, Fubon expects the iPhone price to reach $2,399.

For comparison, here are Apple’s two main US competitors:

Maybe even more important than this comparison is how the foldable would stack up against Apple’s current iPhone lineup.

I had a Galaxy Phone and loved it. Was really thinking about the Apple foldable and I know you'll be paying more because it's Apple, but there comes a point when the price becomes too much for what it does. I think I'll pass.

iPhone 17 Pro Max is the most expensive iPhone model, and it starts at $1,199.

The foldable’s rumored $2,399 price wouldn’t just be more expensive—it would double the cost of the Pro Max.

I’ve written before about how Apple might name its foldable ‘iPhone Ultra’ rather than the expected ‘iPhone Fold.’ And if the pricing turns out in the ballpark of what Fubon expects, I think the Ultra name is even more likely.

Would you pay $2,399 for a foldable iPhone? What do you expect Apple to name it? Let us know in the comments.
