Apple released the iOS 26.4 RC to developers and public beta testers today, setting the stage for an official release as soon as later this month.
Apple has also shared its official release notes for iOS 26.4, confirming that the update improves keyboard accuracy when typing quickly on your iPhone.
iOS 26.4: iPhone keyboard improvements
iOS 26.4 specifically focuses on fixing a bug where characters on the keyboard appeared as if they were tapped, but were not actually inserted. Those missing characters then affected how Apple’s Auto-Correction feature was able to predict what you actually meant to type.
A thread on Reddit from last month is full of complaints from iPhone users impacted by this bug. Again, it primarily happens when you’re typing quickly.
Apple actually quietly rolled out this keyboard change in an earlier iOS 26.4 beta, and users have already noticed an improvement. iOS 26.4 will likely be released to everyone later this month, at which point we’ll get a better idea of what people think about the keyboard improvements.
The change in iOS 26.4 is not connected to a viral video from last year, which appeared to show how the iOS keyboard is “broken.” In that video, the user does not have Auto-Correction enabled and is using the QuickPath (or swipe-to-type) feature. What’s shown in that video is actually the expected behavior, as keyboard animations are purposefully hidden when using QuickType.
If you’re running iOS 26.4, have you noticed any improvement in the keyboard’s accuracy? Let us know down in the comments.
