Apple launches new TechWoven material for iPhone 17 cases

After the disaster that was FineWoven two years ago, Apple is back again with another attempt to replace its leather cases with something more environmentally friendly than leather, and more stylish and premium than its base silicone range.

The new TechWoven cases have a new fine-knit weave appearance. We’ll obviously have to wait for these cases to get into people’s hands to assess their durability.

Apple announces the iPhone N1 chip, its own custom silicon for Bluetooth and WiFi radios

For the iPhone Air, Apple announced a brand new chip, called the N1 chip. The N1 chip manages the Bluetooth, WiFi and Thread radios inside the new iPhone.

The N1 is a custom Apple design, to achieve better wireless performance and power efficiency. Apple specifically said it improves the performance of features like hotspot and AirDrop.

Apple unveils iPhone 17: 120 FPS display, A19 chip, upgraded camera

Apple today announced its next generation lineup of iPhone, starting with the entry-level iPhone 17. iPhone 17 features an upgraded display, better front and rear cameras, and more enhancements. All of these upgrades are offered at the same $799 starting price as the outgoing iPhone 16.

The new iPhone 17 has a larger 6.3-inch display, with ProMotion high-refresh rate support for the first time. It also supports always-on mode to show your lock screen in a dimmed state. Apple brings live translation feature to AirPods Pro

Apple today announced the new AirPods Pro 3, the next-generation of AirPods hardware.

One of the big new software features is Live Translation. By tapping on the stems of both buds, AirPods enter a new translation mode which cancels out background noise and listens in to your conversations. When it hears a foreign language it can understand, you hear the translated version spoken back to you through your AirPods.

Apple Store is down ahead of iPhone 17 and AirPods Pro 3 announcements

Keeping with tradition, the Apple Online Store has been taken down ahead of Apple’s September product event. We are expecting the company to officially unveil the new iPhone 17 lineup, Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch Ultra 3, and a new generation of AirPods Pro.

The ‘awe dropping’ event kicks off at 10 AM Pacific Time. Apple typically takes the store down to signal that new hardware is about to be announced, although it won’t necessarily go on sale immediately.

Powerbeats Fit leaked: Beats new earbuds feature longer battery life and fresh colors

The Powerbeats Fit appear to be a rebrand/replacement for the Beats Fit Pro. After being teased by Beats at the end of August, we now have a full leak of their specs and colorways, courtesy of Evan Blass (@evleaks).

Powerbeats Fit come in a handful of colors, including a vibrant ‘spark orange’ that might just match the new color of the iPhone 17 Pro being announced later today. The earbuds are expected to officially launch in a few weeks time.

Apple TV+ sees early Emmys success with wins for Severance and The Studio

The 77th Emmy Awards ceremony officially takes place next Sunday, where the biggest industry TV awards will be given out. But, the Emmys actually has so many awards they reveal some of the winners a week early.

Based on these preliminary results, Apple TV+ is set for success. In total, the service amassed 15 wins, thanks to its powerhouse players this season of comedy The Studio and sci-fi drama Severance.

Report: Gavin and Stacey sitcom stars sign up to headline new Apple TV+ series

The stars of Gavin and Stacey, one of the most popular BBC series in the UK, are set to write, produce and act in a new Apple TV+ drama, according to the Daily Mail. James Corden and Ruth Jones have apparently signed a deal with Apple on a new series set to go into production next year.

The show is described as “full of heart and warmth”, which certainly vibes with the theme of many of Apple’s most popular comedies.

While we wait for the F1 movie’s streaming debut, Apple has just dropped a new feature film starring Denzel Washington, Highest 2 Lowest directed by Spike Lee. You can stream the movie for free right now with an Apple TV+ subscription.

Highest 2 Lowest is a modern adaptation of a 1963 classic High and Low by Akira Kurosawa. In this version, Washington plays a modern New York music mogul, named David King, whose child is apparently kidnapped and held for ransom.

The big iPhone 17 Air question: will Apple’s new design phone carry a premium price tag?

Next week, Apple will announce the new lineup of iPhone. The big change is the discontinuation of the iPhone 16 Plus phone, instead introducing a new thin form factor design model. This is widely expected to be branded as the iPhone 17 Air.

It will feature the thinnest chassis of an iPhone ever, measuring about 5.5mm at its thinnest point. The tradeoff to achieve the strikingly-thin enclosure is a compromise on camera specs, with the model featuring just one rear lens. MLS Season Pass price drops to $29 for rest of 2025

Like in previous years, Apple is dropping the price of the MLS Season Pass service as the year progresses. The annual sub is now just $29 for the rest of the 2025 season. That price is further discounted to $25 for Apple TV+ subscribers.

The price change affects the 2025 season pass only, the monthly plan price remains the same. The price will return to its usual $99 at the beginning of the 2026 season.

Long-running Apple TV+ comedy to be seen by a new audience on the BBC

Apple’s longest-running original comedy series is getting new life on the BBC in the United Kingdom. The Apple Original Trying, which premiered on Apple’s streaming service in May 2020, will now be available on BBC iPlayer and set for broadcast on the BBC’s linear channels.

The BBC deal was first reported by Deadline, and apparently includes the first three seasons of Trying with the first season debuting on September 8. Meanwhile, Apple TV+ is currently in development of a fifth season of the under-rated British series.

Apple Music radio stations are now available outside of Apple Music for the first time

In what appears to be a marketing effort for its subscription service, Apple has partnered with TuneIn to offer the free Apple Music radio stations outside of the Apple Music app for the first time.

As reported by the Wall Street Journal, starting today, all six of the Apple live music radio stations will be made available to listen to on TuneIn. TuneIn reports more than 75 million monthly active users, spanning a variety of platforms and devices.

The Apple Watch is not actually carbon neutral, says German court

Apple is no longer allowed to advertise the Apple Watch as carbon neutral, a German court ruled following a protest from environmentalists about Apple’s promoted claims.

The Frankfurt court found the company misled consumers for describing the Apple Watch as a CO2-neutral product. Apple first unveiled its first carbon neutral products starting with the Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 in September 2023.

Apple’s F1 movie tops $600m at worldwide box office, surpassing all expectations

Apple’s big box office bet continues to break records for the company, with F1: The Movie now breaking another milestone this weekend, topping $600 million at the worldwide box office.

This figure beats even the most optimistic expectations ahead of release, which cost Apple about $250 million to make. The film hit buy or rent video on demand on Friday, but a streaming date on Apple TV+ has not yet been announced.

Foldable iPhone coming next year to feature four cameras, Touch ID, Apple cellular modem

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman spilled some more details about the upcoming foldable iPhone in his Power On newsletter today.

He says the foldable iPhone will open like a book to reveal a larger inner display, like many Android foldables. The foldable iPhone will feature a total of four cameras, one on the front screen, one on the inside and two on the back. It will also use Touch ID for biometrics and use Apple’s in-house cellular modem for connectivity.

You might get a secret discount offer when you go to cancel Apple TV+

Apple TV+ just announced a 30% price rise, which may convince some subscribers to cancel and churn out for a while.

However, the company seems to be prepared to mitigate for that somewhat. Users on Reddit discovered that when they went to cancel their subscription in the Apple TV app, they were presented with a 54% discount offer for two months.

Paramount poaches key Apple TV+ exec

On the same day that Apple TV+ announced a 30% price rise, news has broken that one of its key TV execs is leaving the company. Creative executive Chris Parnell is leaving Apple and is joining Paramount+, per Deadline.

Parnell joined Apple back in 2020 and spearheaded development of many high-profile TV+ originals, including Dark Matter, Bad Monkey, and the upcoming Vince Gilligan series Pluribus.

Apple TV+ subscription price increasing to $12.99 per month from today

Apple today announced that the monthly price of Apple TV+ is rising in the United States and some international markets. From today, the monthly subscription will cost $12.99, up from $9.99.

Existing subscribers will see the price change 30 days after the next renewal date. The pricing for yearly TV+ subscriptions and the Apple One services bundle remains unchanged.
