In my time with managing Apple devices in the enterprise, macOS has always been known for its reliability in terms of not getting to a state where it can’t boot, but even the most stable systems have the occasional bad day due to a software update issue, etc. With macOS 26, Apple introduced Recovery Assistant, a built-in utility designed to help when that happens. Instead of forcing users to boot into recovery mode and guess at what went wrong, Recovery Assistant automatically launches when the Mac fails to start, diagnoses the problem, and tries to fix it.

HomeKit Weekly: Hands on with Level Lock Pro and why it sets a new standard for HomeKit and Matter smart locks

Level Lock Pro

Level has been building smart locks that feel like they were made for Apple users since the very beginning, and the new Level Lock Pro might be its most exciting upgrade yet. I have been testing it ahead of my full hands-on review, and it is clear that this is the direction smart locks need to go. Home key support is still the gold standard for Apple users, and Matter over Thread brings the speed and reliability that make it work extremely well with your daily schedule.

MagSafe Monday: This new hub is basically a Swiss Army knife for your iPhone or Mac

There has always been this tension with Apple’s devices. Some people want no ports, and some people want them all. I can argue both sides, but the trend is clearly moving toward fewer ports. Satechi’s new MagSafe 7-in-1 hub is one of the first accessories I have used that actually fills that gap in a smart way. It gives the iPhone some of the flexibility of a Mac without adding much clutter or complexity, but can also serve as a portable hub for your Mac as well.

With the new version 3.0, SupportApp undergoes a major redesign for macOS 26 (Liquid Glass), features improved accessibility, and introduces a new Configurator Mode that enables IT to build and test configurations directly within the app.

I believe Apple’s rise as the preferred device for IT teams comes from its focused approach to solving real problems first, then building the tools that make it easy for companies to connect their entire stack and have everything just work. While some companies in years past built their ecosystems around lock in and doing everything, Apple built its enterprise strategy around integration. The new collaboration between JumpCloud and Google Workspace is the latest reminder that the future of enterprise IT is not about competition. It is about cooperation for the customer, even when you compete at the same time.

SwitchBot Smart RGBICWW Floor Lamp

As I reported a few weeks ago, SwitchBot keeps expanding its lineup of Matter-enabled devices, and this week I’ve been using the new SwitchBot Smart RGBICWW Floor Lamp. If you want a smart lamp that’s bright enough for daily use but flexible enough to create ambiance, this one has worked great thus far. It connects directly to HomeKit through Matter, eliminating the need for a hub outside of a HomeKit hub. It can produce up to 1200 lumens of light and supports warm white, cool white, and full-color modes.

Managed Apple Accounts are quickly becoming the foundation of Apple devices at work, and if your organization has not rolled them out yet, it’s a project worthy of your team’s attention heading into 2026. Back in my long-retired K-12 tech-focused days in 2012, Fraser Speirs and I talked at length about how identity management was the problem to solve in a cloud and multi-device world. Apple’s managed identity system has quietly become one of the most important parts of its enterprise story. What started as a way to manage App Store accounts for students and employees has evolved into a secure, scalable identity layer that connects everything in the Apple ecosystem with the tools IT already uses.

The web browser is one of the most important apps on any Mac, especially in the enterprise. For most employees, it is where a lot of their work happens: Jira, SDFC, email, and other SaaS tools. For IT, that makes the browser both a productivity enabler and one of the biggest security surfaces to manage. Getting identity and access right inside the browser is now just as critical as securing the device itself. That is why Chrome’s new support for Apple’s Extensible Single Sign On framework is such a big deal heading into Q4. It gives IT a native, secure way to deliver seamless authentication for Chrome users on the Mac without adding much friction or complexity.

HomeKit Weekly: The Meross MS600 brings presence and light sensors to HomeKit

Meross MS600

Presence/motion sensors are one of the best ways to make automations feel more natural, but most of them run on batteries and eventually have to be swapped. That’s one of the main reasons I really like the Meross MS600 Smart Presence Sensor. It plugs into the wall, so you don’t have to worry about battery swaps. It combines millimeter wave radar, motion detection, and a built-in light sensor to detect it all.

Mosyle helps IT prepare for the agentic AI browser era with ChatGPT Atlas

Agentic AI is a term that every IT team should become familiar with, as it will impact every aspect of their work. As SaaS apps continue to dominate, the browser has become more than just a window to the web. A new generation of browsers is emerging that brings the agentic AI era directly into how people work every day.

Agentic browsers can summarize information, reason over data, and even take action on a user’s behalf. OpenAI recently launched ChatGPT Atlas, and Mosyle, a popular vendor in the Apple IT space, is helping teams prepare for the future of agentic AI by adding its app to its app catalog.
