I’ve traveled more in the last year than I have in my entire life, and it’s making me yearn for something that Apple has long ignored: cellular enabled Mac laptops. While tethering works fine, it can be cumbersome to reconnect when moving locations. In 2024, as mobile computing becomes increasingly essential, the lack of built-in cellular connectivity feels like an oversight. Here’s why it’s time for Apple to embrace cellular hardware in its macOS devices.

Over the years, enterprises have increasingly leveraged Apple’s Identity Provider (IdP) integration for the macOS login window to create a better experience for employees while simultaneously enhancing security. If you had told me ten years ago that another company could ‘take over’ the macOS login window, I would have said that pigs must be flying. In the enterprise, identity is everything. The rise of SaaS (Software as a Service) tools has only amplified the need for a robust and unified identity system.

HomeKit Weekly: Why aren’t we seeing new HomeKit Secure Video cameras?

HomeKit has become a powerful platform, with Apple consistently enhancing its features while staying true to its privacy-first approach. They’ve even contributed to the Matter standard, expanding what the Home app can do. But there’s a big problem we need to address: HomeKit Secure Video. Vendors are largely ignoring it, and while this isn’t entirely Apple’s fault, it’s a problem they need to solve.

Starling Home Hub adds deeper HomeKit support for new 4th generation Nest thermostat

Starling Home Hub

One reason I might consider upgrading to the new fourth-generation Google Nest Learning Thermostat is its built-in Matter support. In practice, however, the Matter integration appears to be pretty lackluster. My favorite HomeKit bridge, the Starling Home Hub, has just released a new firmware update that deepens the new Nest’s integration with Matter.
