Big part up front: Software update fatigue is real for consumers and business users. New features, security updates, and regular maintenance means something is updated almost daily. Browsers are seeing rapid enhancement, and security concerns mean that updates for every app and the operation systems need frequent updates. So, how do we deal with fixing the experience?

HomeKit Weekly: Abode Lock and Keypad highlights the benefits of platform integration

Abode Lock & Keypad

I’ve been using Abode as my security system for over four years at this point. Even when I built a new house in 2022, I decided to choose Abode once again despite being able to pick from anything. It strikes a really nice balance between ease of use, strong technology, and reliability. The products are affordable, and the monitoring plan works great. Because the company has a UL-certified monitoring station. Abode recently released a new Abode Lock & Keypad smart lock, and I’ve had a little time to integrate it into the Abode ecosystem to see how it works.

I’ve never been the type to want to travel with a portable router in my bag. Dealing with the complexity of connecting to various networks along with the fact that many hotels have moved away from ethernet to a Wi-Fi-only experience. That is until I started using the AirCove Go. It’s now a permanent fixture in my travel bag.

HomeKit Weekly: Hands-on with the new Aqara P2 motion sensor

Aqara P2

A few weeks ago, Aqara was in the news with the release of its new P2 motion sensor. I am a big fan of motion sensors for smart homes as they allow for some pretty rad automations based on who’s in a certain room and when. They’re generally low-cost enough that you can put them in multiple rooms without breaking the budget. Let’s dive into the new motion sensor and see how it works.

MagSafe Monday: O-Mag Magnetic Webcam Mount is the perfect way to use Continuity Camera on your Mac

Spigen O-Mag Webcam Mount

There’s no sugar coating it: The iPhone’s camera is a drastically better camera for video meetings over the Mac’s webcam. Even as Apple has upgraded the Mac’s webcam in recent years, it still doesn’t hold a candle to the iPhone. Spigen’s O-Mag Webcam Mount allows you to mount your iPhone to your Mac easily.

MagSafe Monday

I am all in on MagSafe Wallets. I am not sure I’ll ever return to a wallet not attached to my iPhone. It’s one less thing to keep track of day to day. They’re also small enough if I didn’t want to leave my iPhone behind, and they fit right in my pocket. I am on a mission to try all of them. Today, I am looking at the Spigen Smart Fold 2 with its strong and durable design.

Apple @ Work: As Ubiquiti adds phone support, they put other networking vendors on notice

I’ve been a Ubiquiti advocate for the past 5-6 years for the vast majority of enterprise networking installations. It’s not going to be the perfect fit for all installations. Still, I believe that it covers 95% of the networking needs of most organizations outside of data centers and very demanding environments. One of the negatives of Ubiquiti for many users was the focus on email and forum-based support. For mission-critical environments, 24/7 support is needed. Ubiquiti recently eliminated that issue as they now offer 24/7 phone support as an additional tier.

MagSafe Monday: After a cracked and scratched iPhone screen, the ESR for iPhone 15 Pro Case is my solution

Full-Body Shockproof MagSafe Case ESR

Maybe it’s me, or maybe it’s the iPhone 15 Pro, but I finally cracked my first iPhone screen ever. I used my local Best Buy for the repair as they handle authorized Apple repairs. They did a fantastic job, and it was done within a few hours. A few weeks later, after a day of yard work, I noticed a small scratch on my screen. Ugh, right? Thankfully it wasn’t cracked, but I clearly cannot be trusted at this point. I decided to upgrade my iPhone case to one with a built in screen protector. I ended up with the ESR’s iPhone 15 Pro Full-Body Shockproof MagSafe Case.

There’s never a good time to migrate between device management vendors, but sometimes its necessary. If all of your devices are deployed at the same time (on a lease, etc.), you can time these device refreshes with the new device management deployment; otherwise, you’ll be migrating mid-flight. The end goal is to ensure that end-users have no disruption.

MagSafe Monday: Spigen Urban Fit delivers an Apple-like wallet experience at nearly half the cost

Spigen Valentinus

Apple’s MagSafe wallet is generally the default option for most people looking for a way to store an identification card, credit card, and more. While it’s Find My integration is great, that does mean its double the cost of a lot of the MagSafe wallets from other vendors. The Urban Fit is a perfect example of a solid alternative to Apple’s wallet. At half the cost, it can hold three cards and works great on the back of your iPhone.
