MagSafe is often connected only with wireless charging, but its potential goes far beyond charging your iPhone. For content creators and photographers, MagSafe offers a great way to mount and position their iPhone without the hassle of clamps or brackets. The only time I’ve cracked my iPhone screen is with a clamp. This week on MagSafe Monday, I am looking at a product that takes full advantage of MagSafe to give you a content creation tool or a way to use your iPhone as a Zoom camera for the Mac. Let’s look at the KraftGeek MagSafe Tripod.

One of the things that Apple got right with the foundation of macOS (then OS X) was the ability to operate the computer as a limited user. Running as a Standard user is one of the best ways to level up your macOS security, especially in the enterprise. The Mac team at SAP recently released Privileges 2.1, which has some great features to help IT teams allow their users to gain admin privileges when needed.

MagSafe docks might seem like they’re all the same, and many of them are. It’s all about charging, so you look for the ones with the look, finish, or price that you want. Every once in a while, a company will innovate with a feature I’d never thought about. The iWALK 3-in-1 MagSafe dock brings just that: an IR sensor so you can change between portrait or landscape without removing your iPhone.

Apple Business Manager (and School Manager) is Apple’s web-based portal that helps IT teams deploy and manage their Apple fleets at scale, ensuring automatic enrollment, configuration, and oversight of company-owned hardware that connects to their device management system of choice. Over the years,
With a recent update, Apple Business Manager now provides IT administrators with additional visibility into released and replaced devices. This makes it easier to monitor when a device was removed, which person authorized the release, and whether a replacement device has been issued.
HomeKit has changed how I interact with many of the rooms in my house. While lighting and cameras tend to have the spotlight for most people as they can easily see the impact, environment monitoring is an equally important factor for me. The Aqara Temperature and Humidity Sensor is a low-cost, simple, yet useful device that can enhance your HomeKit setup significantly. Here’s why you might want to install one in every room.

This time, it’s releasing one of the lowest-cost Wi-Fi 7 access points on the market, the U7 Lite, which is available for $99. It’s also releasing a new in-wall Wi-Fi 7 access point for $149. Wi-Fi 7 expands upon some of the great features of Wi-Fi 6E and is supported on the iPhone 16 lineup (except the newly released iPhone 16e).

A new IT report explains that IT teams are ready to ditch passwords. 85% of surveyed IT admins believe requiring biometrics would improve security, but 68% of IT admins report that less than half of the devices they currently manage have biometric support. That’s a massive gap, and Apple might be the best company to fill it as every Apple device comes with biometrics out of the box.
eufy cameras have long been some of the best options for outdoor HomeKit cameras. I had the original model of the eufyCam 2 in my old house, and I loved them. They were a breeze to install, and the battery life was fantastic. They worked great with HomeKit Secure Video, but they also worked great as HomeKit motion sensors and recording back to the eufy base station. Overall, I had zero complaints. I recently picked up the eufy E30, and it’s a fantastic HomeKit camera if you’re looking for an indoor camera that supports HomeKit Secure Video.

So many accessories for MagSafe revolve around charging, docking, etc. Some of them are not technology-related but work with an analog approach. The MOFT Action Inspiration is an awesome product for those who love sticky notes but need something on the go.

Before the iPad, Apple saw a lot of success in K-12, but it was mainly around cart-based learning with MacBooks. While several schools had 1:1 programs, the iPad (and its $499 price point) kickstarted the mobility revolution. The iPad was a hit with students and teachers alike, but managing iPads at scale was, to put it mildly, a logistical nightmare for IT teams.
Internally at 9to5Mac, there have been a few conversations about the lack of releases in new HomeKit cameras in recent years. The challenge with HomeKit Secure Video is that the manufacturer sees no option for recurring revenue, so I suspect that might be part of it. The wait for something new is over, though. Today, Aqara has released the new Aqara Camera Hub G5 Pro with HomeKit Secure Video support. I’ve had my hands on one for the last two weeks, so I am excited to share my experience.
