My 10 favorite little features in iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia

Apple coming soon

This fall, iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia will introduce a variety of big changes for users. Features like Apple Intelligence, Home Screen customization, iPhone Mirroring, and the redesigned Photos app will get a lot of attention.

But alongside those major improvements, there are also lots of smaller changes coming to the iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Here are some of my favorite little features in iOS and iPadOS 18 and macOS Sequoia.

With today’s release of iOS 18 beta 5 and macOS Sequoia beta 5 developers, Apple is rolling out a new feature for Safari called Distraction Control. This feature is designed to give users more control over their web browsing experience by making it easy to block certain elements on web pages, such as sign-in popups and other content overlays.

The first version of Apple Intelligence is now available for developers, but there’s a lot it’s missing. iOS 18.1 beta 1 brings the new Siri, for example, but lacks key features like ChatGPT integration. In yesterday’s Apple earnings call, Tim Cook addressed the staggered rollout of Apple Intelligence features and specifically mentioned a timeline for ChatGPT support.

Smarter Siri with personal context understanding coming later this year in iOS 18 update

Apple today launched the first round of Apple Intelligence features into the iOS 18 beta channel, with a public launch to customers likely coming in October, after iOS 18.0’s debut in September.

Today’s updates for Siri include a new edge-lit UI design and deeper product how-to knowledge. Apple says the new Siri will also more reliably understand user intent, if the user stumbles over their words while making their request, and can better maintain context from one request to the next.
