We’ve noted the contradictory and hard-to-parse rumors about a new iPhone 17 Slim, with some suggesting it will be the top-end model while more recent reports indicate that it may be less powerful than the Pro models.

The more I read about this device, the more it sounds like Apple may be aiming to get yet another step closer to that vision of “a single slab of glass” – and making another attempt at a strategy it first tried with the 12-inch MacBook …

iPhone 17 Ultra? Slim? Air? Here’s why the latest rumor is so confusing

iPhone 17 Ultra

We’re just a couple months away from the iPhone 16’s launch. There are a lot of changes in store for this year’s iPhones. But today it’s next year’s models at the center of a new rumor.

When the iPhone 17 launches in 2025, reports indicate that Apple plans to introduce an advanced, ultra-premium model that stands apart from the rest of the lineup. iPhone 17 2nm chip reports disputed | iPhone 15 Pro Max logic board shown

Reports of the iPhone 17 having a 2nm chip in the two Pro models have been disputed by a leaker with a respectable track-record. They say that Apple’s first 2nm processor will instead be used in the iPhone 18.

Thin and light is back in style, and Apple’s M4 iPad Pro is proof it can be done right

M4 iPad Pro thin

Not too long ago, Apple was on a mission to make all of its devices thinner and lighter. This ambition resulted in iPhones that bent, and MacBook Pros that removed pro ports and had a terrible keyboard.

In the past few years, Apple has shifted gears, prioritizing battery life, ports, and other important features over thinness. But the tides are set to turn again.

According to a new report, Apple’s thinning agenda is back and it’s coming for the iPhone, MacBook Pro, and Apple Watch soon. But the recent iPad Pro shows that Apple may just succeed this time around.

Today in a subscriber-only post, analyst Ross Young reported that he and his team have heard rumblings about a new iPhone display size being introduced with 2025’s iPhone 17 lineup.
