Foxconn lawyer says they will not settle with Qualcomm, cites ‘unreasonable demands’

Lead attorney for Apple assembly firm Foxconn reiterated statements similar sounding to ones made by Apple attorneys that neither company would seek a settlement in court with Qualcomm over the companies ongoing legal tug-of-war.

The statement comes just weeks after Apple attorney William Isaacson told reporters that a trial against Qualcomm “would be necessary”, despite conflicting comments coming from Qualcomm via its CEO, who implied a peaceful resolution was just “on the doorstep.”

Qualcomm now tries to get this year’s iPhones banned in China through 2nd injunction

iPhone injunction

Qualcomm won a surprise victory against Apple in China earlier this week, when it obtained an injunction against both the import and sale of iPhones in the country.

That victory was, however, more theoretical than practical: the injunction applied to older models, and seemingly only on the basis of the version of iOS they ran when they first went on sale. Apple continued to sell all its iPhone models in China.

However, Qualcomm has today upped the ante …

Apple has no plans to settle with Qualcomm, is gearing up for trial – Reuters

settlement

It wasn’t long ago that the long-running dispute between Apple and wireless chipmaker Qualcomm looked like it might be settled out of court. Qualcomm had been using much softer language, and when the company asked a court for more time to reach a settlement, Apple backed the motion.

Things got a little testier when Qualcomm accused Apple of stealing its source code, and then complained about the company’s mounting unpaid bill. But Apple subsequently made a good faith payment of $500M while discussions took place. However, a new report today suggests that Apple has no plans to settle out of court …
