Apple announces contest to crown 10 best ‘Shot on iPhone’ photos, submissions open through February 7th

Apple shared a Newsroom briefing today announcing a new contest to find the “best photos shot on iPhone”. Running from January 22 to February 7, Apple says its panel of eleven photography judges from around the world (including Phil Schiller), will select the ten winning photos to be featured on billboards in select cities, and Apple retail locations.

Apple’s Shot on iPhone campaign certainly helps promote the capabilities of what has been described as the world’s most popular camera, and they can also inspire iPhone owners to up their own photographic game. In the latest offering (via CNN), Apple partnered with 15 photographers around the world to capture the new year’s even festivities in cities ranging from Sydney, Australia, to Iceland.

Apple continues ‘Shot on iPhone’ campaign with 8 new videos

In addition to unveiling a pair of new Apple Music ads starring DJ Khaled, Apple today has uploaded a series of new videos as part of its “Shot on iPhone” ad campaign. Last month, Apple returned to the Shot on iPhone ad series for Mother’s Day, but this marks the first big release of videos for the campaign in a while. The company initially rebooted the ad campaign in February with all-new images from the iPhone 6s.

Tim Cook finds himself receiving Twitter snark over motion-blurred Super Bowl photo

Apple CEO Tim Cook found himself on the receiving end of a lot of ‘Shot on iPhone’ snark when he tweeted a blurry photo at the end of the Super Bowl 50 game. The photo appears to be motion-blurred due to the slow shutter speed in the low light.

‘Shot on iPhone 6’ photographers surprised with physical photo books from Apple

Apple’s Shot on iPhone ad campaign was largely deemed a huge success, with the campaign taking home the top prize at the Cannes Grand Prix festival over the summer. Separately, a photo featured in the campaign won its own Cannes Lions award. Now, Apple is rewarding those photographers who had their iPhone-shot pictures featured in the campaign.

Apple today has surprised Shot on iPhone photographers with physical photo books featuring the images featured in the campaign. Participants in the ad campaign are receiving packages with the photo book, as well as a pair of plain white gloves, presumably meant to wear while the handle the cloth photo books. The books are all white and titled “The Gallery.”

One photographer who received a book, Brendan Ó Sé, of Cork, Ireland, said the books were a complete surprise. “It was totally out of the blue,” he said. “Naturally, I looked for my own photo, but seeing those of the friends I’ve made over this campaign added to the surprise and thrill.” (via Cult of Mac).

The Shot on iPhone World Gallery showcased images from 162 users and was marketed in 73 cities in 25 countries. Images in the campaign itself were shot in 13 different countries and included videos as well. Photographs that were included in the campaign were also featured on various billboards and buildings around the world.

Apple adds two new videos to its Shot on iPhone World Gallery

Apple this evening has shared two new videos as part of its Shot on iPhone campaign. Apple originally introduced videos to the campaign earlier this month and made additions two weeks ago, as well. Today’s two new clips are follow suit with the earlier videos and are 15 seconds long. They have been added to both Apple’s World Gallery webpage and its YouTube channel.
