Last November, Bloomberg broke the news that Tesla was working on CarPlay support, a dramatic shift in policy for Elon Musk’s company.

Here’s the latest on what we know about Tesla’s plans to support CarPlay.

Tesla is considering rolling out CarPlay support as soon as the end of this year, according to a new report from Bloomberg.

This marks a huge shift in strategy for the biggest EV maker, which has historically built its entire in-car infrastructure from scratch rather than relying on a third-party.

Tesla has officially announced and revealed its forthcoming app for Apple Watch, and it’s available now.

Apple has officially contacted the California DMV to request cancelation of its Autonomous Vehicles Program Manufacturer’s Testing Permit, effective September 27th. Their permit would’ve been active until April 30th, 2025 if they hadn’t requested a cancelation (via macReports).

Tesla owners might soon be able to control their car using their Apple Watch, at least if Elon Musk is to be believed. In response to a question on social media about whether Tesla could add Apple Watch integration, Musk responded: “Sure.”

Tesla now supports the iPhone’s Ultra Wideband chip for improved Phone Key performance, at least on some cars. Apple started including the Ultra Wideband chip with the iPhone 11, allowing for better nearby interaction between an iPhone and other devices equipped with UWB technology.

Apple’s Podcasts app appears to be coming to Tesla infotainment systems as an independent app in an upcoming software update, according to a new leak. This officially puts the Apple Podcasts app experience everywhere but Android.

Currently, Tesla cars do not support CarPlay, but by the beginning of the year, 9to5Mac reported a nice project called Tesla Android with CarPlay. Created by developer Michał Gapiński, this workaround to enable CarPlay on Tesla cars has now been updated to version 2022.25.1 with a ton of new features. In addition, it now supports all the cars the company has.
