Update 9/8/2025: While other electronics makers are raising prices, Rode has dropped the Wireless Micro retail price from $149 down to $99. Wireless GO (Gen 3) is also priced 33% lower now at $199.
We’re living in the future, folks. Rode’s new Wireless Micro hardware is basically the AirPods of lav mics for your iPhone. The product consists of two wireless lavaliere microphones, a USB-C wireless receiver that connects to your iPhone or iPad, and a compact charging case that recharges over USB-C. I’ve been trying out the Rode Wireless Micro for a few months now, and I’m honestly blown away by the state-of-the-art technology here. Since launching in November 2024, Rode has sweetened the deal in several ways. More on that at the bottom of our original review.
Rode Wireless Micro is the most compact way to turn your USB-C smartphone or tablet into a portable recording studio. You can literally fit the whole system in your pocket — the charging case is about the size of the Powerbeats Pro charging case — which makes it ideal for impromptu video creation with high fidelity audio capture. The most fun I’ve had with this thing happened over a weekend when I stuck a mic on each of my kids at the trampoline park and hit record on my iPhone.

Audio recording works whether you’re using the Rode Capture app or the built-in Camera app for recording video. The Rode Capture app gives you more creative control, however, including the ability to record a mixed track or separate tracks when using both microphones. You can also capture video from both the front and back camera with Rode Capture — an ideal setup for recording video interviews with great audio.
What’s in the box and availability

More details from Rode:
Each transmitter features a patent-pending acoustic chamber design, which houses the microphone and is purpose-built to mitigate wind noise and capture exceptionally clear audio while remaining as compact as possible. The omnidirectional pickup pattern captures sound from all around, making placement and positioning super simple. Combining this withGainAssist makes for perfectly balanced, even audio, even if the microphone moves during recording or its placement isn’t ideal. […]
The transmitters’ ultra-compact form factor and ultra-lightweight build – weighing just 12 grams – make them perfect for clipping onto talent while remaining discreet on-camera, and their splash proof design means they can even handle inclement weather. The pocket-sized charging case keeps the system safe and secure on the move and, with an extra two recharges on-board for a total battery life of 21 hours, theWireless Micro is ready whenever and wherever the creator takes it.
Rode Wireless Micro is available in USB-C or Lightning configurations in either black or white. It retails for an incredible $149 $99, a value price that makes this an instant purchase for enhancing your video capture game for professional or personal use. Find it from rode.com or authorized Rode dealers.
Post-launch updates
Rode has delivered even more features and capabilities since launch. They’ve also expanded retail availability.
In May, Rode added the ability to connect Wireless Micro directly to iPhone and iPad without the Lightning or USB-C receiver:
Available through the RØDE Capture app, Direct Connect enables Wireless Micro transmitters to pair directly with iPhones via Bluetooth®, eliminating the need for any additional hardware or accessories. This dramatically streamlines setup while preserving the pristine audio quality the Wireless Micro is known for. […]
In addition to Direct Connect, the update introduces several powerful enhancements within the RØDE Capture companion app. A brand-new noise reduction feature helps deliver even cleaner audio by minimising background noise – perfect for recording in dynamic or uncontrolled environments. This setting can be toggled independently for each transmitter, giving users precise control over their sound.
For added versatility, creators now have the option to record in merged or split modes. In merged mode, audio from both transmitters is combined into a single, ready-to-publish stereo track; in split mode, each transmitter is recorded to a separate channel, offering greater flexibility during post-production. Finally, a new output gain control lets users easily adjust recording levels directly within the app, ensuring perfectly balanced audio every time.
In July, Rode improved the already versatile lav mic system by introducing the Wireless Micro Camera Receiver. These are the key features:
- Ultra-compact on-camera receiver compatible with up to two Wireless Micro transmitters
- Best-in-class line of sight range for optimal flexibility in dynamic environments
- Universal camera compatibility
- Plug-in power detect for extended battery life during long shooting sessions
- Dedicated gain control for perfectly balanced audio-in levels
- Super compact, ultra-lightweight form factor with a sleek design for seamless integration into any camera setup
- Designed and manufactured in RØDE’s state-of-the-art facilities in Sydney, Australia

Best of all, Rode is making it possible for many Wireless Micro customers to take home the camera receiver at no charge or the cost of shipping:
To claim a bonus Wireless Micro Camera Receiver, existing Wireless Micro users, and new customers in the United States, can simply register their product at account.rode.com and pay a small shipping fee, with no charge for the product itself. New customers purchasing the Wireless Micro from rode.com in Australia, the United Kingdom, and Europe have the option to add the Camera Receiver to their order at no extra cost.
Lastly, Rode Wireless Micro ($149.00) ($99) has expanded its retail availability since debuting at the end of last year. In addition to being available from Rode.com, you can purchase Wireless Micro from Amazon as well as Apple, both online and in stores.
As of this writing, Amazon is at the new $99 retail price thanks to a sale while Apple is still priced higher more than buying directly from Rode originally.
